Another common scam involves fake TikTok system notifications.
You receive a message from a profile that, at first glance, appears to be an official TikTok system account. The profile name, picture, wording and overall appearance are designed to make the message look authentic.
The message may say something like:
“Unusual activity has been detected on your account. Click the link below to verify your account.”
It may also warn you that your account will be suspended, restricted or permanently disabled if you do not act within a certain period of time.
This is a trap.
The purpose of these messages is to frighten you and make you act quickly without checking whether the warning is genuine.
The link can take you to a fake website designed to look like a legitimate TikTok login or verification page. If you enter your username, email address, password or verification code there, those credentials can be captured by the scammers and used to gain access to your account.
Look carefully at the sender before doing anything.
Do not trust a message simply because the profile uses the TikTok name, logo or words such as “System,” “Security,” “Support” or “Verification.”
Look closely at the account itself. Scam profiles can imitate the appearance of an official account while still behaving like ordinary user accounts.
Most importantly, never use a suspicious link in a message to verify your TikTok account.
If you receive a security warning and want to check whether there is actually a problem, open TikTok yourself and check your account and security settings directly inside the app rather than using the link contained in the message.
Never enter your password or verification code on a page opened through a suspicious message.
