The Fake Brand Ambassador Scam

Another scam specifically targets people who regularly create and publish content on TikTok.

You may receive a message from someone claiming to represent a jewelry or accessories brand, manufacturer, or retailer. The message tells you that your profile is particularly appealing and that you would be a perfect fit for the brand.

 

You are then invited to become a brand ambassador or collaboration partner.

At first, the offer sounds extremely attractive.

You may be promised 20%, 30%, or even 40% commission on every product sold through your personal link or discount code. But the offer does not stop there.

​

To convince you of the quality of the products, you are told that you can select jewelry or accessories up to a certain value — often supposedly worth $300 to $1,000.

You are told that these products will be completely free.

When placing the order, you receive a special discount or promotional code. After entering the code, the price of the selected products actually drops to zero.

You only have to pay the shipping costs.

And that is exactly what makes the offer so tempting.

You have supposedly been selected as a brand ambassador, you are promised future commissions, and on top of that you are receiving products worth hundreds of dollars for free.

Suddenly, $10 or $20 in shipping costs seems like a very small price to pay.

This is where the real trap begins.

 

With fraudulent offers, the promised products are never shipped. The only thing you have actually done is pay the supposed shipping fee.

The situation becomes even more serious if you entered your credit card or other payment details on an untrustworthy website. Those details can then be used for unauthorized charges or further fraudulent activity.

These types of collaboration offers specifically target publicly visible creator profiles. Do not allow high commissions, free products, or flattering messages to override basic caution.

Check the “company” before you order anything.

Take a close look at the website.

Are there verifiable contact details? Is there clear information about the company and the people responsible for it? Does the business have an identifiable presence beyond the website? Does the website itself appear professional, transparent, and verifiable?

A recently registered domain, missing company information, unclear contact details, or a website designed primarily to push you into placing an order as quickly as possible are serious warning signs.

And most importantly:

A legitimate brand collaboration should not depend on you paying money first or entering your payment details on an unknown website.

 

Do not allow yourself to be pressured, and do not be blinded by supposedly free products or unusually high commissions.

If an offer does not stand up to scrutiny, walk away.
